Inpatient & ICU Renovation

This inpatient & ICU renovation project was the first phase of a multi-story renovation of the hospital’s inpatient care environment. It established the prototype for future renovations from the planning, layouts, interior finishes and mechanical, electrical, plumbing and technology solutions. The 30,000 square foot renovation provides a complement of 29 inpatient beds in the west wing, containing 2 isolation and 2 bariatric rooms. The east wing of the renovation contains a 10 bed ICU unit with 2 isolation and 2 bariatric rooms. To enhance the patient-centered plan, the design focused on patient and caregiver needs and family support. Within the patient rooms, patients can control lighting levels and room temperature, as well as various communication options. The design utilized modular headwall and specialized casework systems which can effectively adapt to changes in patient care, leveraging advances in technology. In addition, the existing mechanical, electrical, technology, plumbing, and fire protection systems were upgraded to meet current codes and be fully commissioned. The interior design focused upon creating a soothing and healing care experience. For patient and staff safety, each patient room is equipped with a full patient lift system to support the VA’s “minimal lift” policy.
