Roman Montoto - AIA, NCARB, LEED AP

Senior Project Architect

Román is a licensed architect with a wealth of experience gained from a diverse career path spanning multiple cities and sectors. After graduating from UW-Milwaukee and practicing in his hometown, Román moved to Chicago where he worked on innovative local, regional, national, and international projects ranging from large-scale developments to bespoke residential and cultural spaces. His career then shifted towards academia, where he taught design studios and eventually accepted a full-time position at the University of Idaho's Department of Architecture, achieving tenure and promotion to full professor based on the national and international recognition of his work and that of his students.

With a passion for design discovery through visionary client engagement, Román now brings his unique blend of practical and pedagogical design experience and processes to Nagel Architects. Working on a range of projects including National Cemetery Administration Facilities, multi-family, corporate, and commercial developments, Román aims to craft impactful and memorable spatial environments that contribute to an equitable future. His commitment to finding the frontier in design emerges through his dedication to pushing the boundaries of the expected in design to create a more thought provoking, experientially vibrant, and inclusive world.
